Advice for Motorists

Auto en la CicloRecreoVía

The CicloRecreoVía undoubtedly causes certain inconveniences for some motorists. While this is certainly true, the aggravation caused to them should not be very large. Indeed, from an objective viewpoint, the annoyance is very small: a detour of two or three blocks, a slightly longer wait, and the need to drive slowly while in the circuit are the only unusual inconveniences.

However, none of these problems means the loss of more than one or two minutes of a driver’s time, at the most. The perceived inconvenience is neither grave nor dramatic nor unbearable.

Fortunately, many car drivers understand immediately that their troubles are insignificant in comparison to the benefits that, this activity makes possible for thousands of people, including those same motorists, when they (or their children) participate in the CicloRecreoVía.

To the motorists who remain unconvinced, we ask them to ask themselves the following questions:

  • Does having to wait two extra minutes justify opposition to an activity that makes hundreds of children happy, that provides them hours of safe and healthy entertainment, and that is anxiously anticipated every week?
  • Is a two or three block detour sufficiently annoying to refuse to support an activity that contributes notably to the real and concrete strengthening of familial and community ties?
  • Is not being able to leave quickly from your house because the CicloRecreoVía passes by it enough reason to object to an initiative that creates a space that permits the free circulation of people of varying abilities, including the physically handicapped, for whom sidewalks are often inaccessible, who often remain shut up in their homes during the rest of the week?

We need the collaboration of motorists in order to strengthen this initiative to give families, youth, adults, and especially children a space to play sports and to enjoy themselves in a safe and healthy way.

The communities and the children appreciate your support.

Auto en la CicloRecreoVíaSpecifically, what we are asking is that on Sundays between 9:00 and 13:00, motorists avoid, if at all possible, driving or parking their vehicles on the streets that have been designated part of the CicloRecreoVía.

If you usually park on the route, we ask that you park on your property or on an adjacent street instead of on the route.

It should be clear that if a motorized vehicle needs to get to a house, business, or other locale along the circuit, it is possible to do so, but the vehicle must enter the route at the closest possible point to its destination. In other words, if you need to access some point in the circuit, we ask that you approach it as closely as possible outside of the route. It is always better to drive on the route for half a block than for several blocks. .
